Built-up equivalent of a rolled section
Choose the section from your calculation note (from 300 upwards) and its use: the tool proposes the S355JR built-up section with the same moment and the same deflection, from the standard range when suitable, otherwise custom-made.
Equivalence by section, not by member. The class 3 built-up section is compared elastically (Wel,x × 355) with the resistance moment of the rolled section, plastic or elastic according to your note; same Ix for deflection; for a column, effective web area (EN 1993-1-5) and weak-axis inertia; for a crane runway, the top flange alone keeps half the weak-axis inertia of the rolled section. To be checked by the engineering office on the project: lateral-torsional buckling (Iy and torsional stiffness of the built-up section are lower; restraint of the compression flange by purlins or girts is decisive), web buckling under concentrated loads, flexural buckling, fatigue and connections, to be redesigned for the new depth.

Atlas Steel standard range: 12 symmetrical sections and 4 asymmetrical sections for crane runways (designation web × thickness - top flange / bottom flange). Other sections are made to measure.
